Saw Palmeto (Sabal Serrulata, Serenoa repens). Contains the amino acid tyramine, which relaxes the tissues surrounding the prostate, permitting greater flow. Since tyramine can trigger migraines, men who are prone to migraines should avoid it. Treats Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and it’s symptoms, like painful urination and the need to urinate frequently. Treats male pattern baldness by reducing the body’s levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Too much DHT causes hair loss. Prevents the conversion of testosterone to its active form, slowing prostate growth, but can also interfere with erections. The best use of the herb is for preventing swelling after prostate surgery.
Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica). Promotes prostate health in combination with saw palmetto. Fights prostate cancer. Highly nutritious, offering iron, magnesium, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B6, and plenty of dietary fiber. Alternative remedy for numerous conditions including arthritis, hay fever.
